First North-listed Crunchfish has received a pre-notification from the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) that a patent for proximity functionality for payment terminals will be granted. The patent protects use scenarios for mobile payment and proximity-based retail marketing. Patent application number 1551557-0 becomes the company’s eighth patented invention in the area of ​​Connected AR. Patent protection is valid until 2035 in Sweden. An international PCT patent application has also been submitted.

Crunchfish is a pioneer within Augmented Reality, with 14 patented inventions of which 8 have been approved. This patent protects interaction with payment terminals or other types of commercial service terminals where communication is beacon-based and functionality adapted depending on the mobile user’s distance to the terminal.

The patent relates to the Mobile Wallet and protects multiple beacon-based mobile payment and proximity retail marketing solutions:

  • Mobile payment with the phone in your pocket
  • Phone-independent mobile payment
  • Fast mobile payment or confirmation at the time of delivery of ordered product
  • Cardless ATM
  • Customized digital billboards in store
  • Automatic information transfer about present customers to store staff
  • Digital handling of discount coupons and loyalty programs

The service is currently offered at about ten restaurants and cafes in Stockholm and Malmö. During the first weekend of September, pej was also successfully tested in Malmö Arena with thousands of computer game enthusiasts at Dreamhack Masters 2017.

Crunchfish’s patent portfolio
Crunchfish has, nationally and internationally, 58 active patents and patent applications in two technology areas – gesture control and Augmented Reality. There are 11 unique inventions in gesture control, of which 10 have been granted patents and 14 unique inventions in Augmented Reality of which 8 have been approved patents. The company owns all its patents and patent applications without limitation.
