Crunchfish and ClearOn have launched a new payment solution for retail transactions using the Swish mobile payment service. Blippit, a joint venture between the two companies, will deliver the new service. Blippit combines a new app terminal with the ClearOn online clearing service, currently operational in 20,000 points of sale in the grocery retail and convenience store sectors. Swish users pay by tapping their mobile on the app terminal, which has been developed by Crunchfish.

Swish is growing fast and currently has more than 6.5 million users in Sweden and 180,000 subscriber companies. In 2018, close to 400 million payments were made with Swish. The rapid growth in the service last year was driven primarily by strong uptake among large e-commerce companies.

Through Blippit, Crunchfish and ClearOn are paving the way for consumers to use Swish for retail transactions. Small stores in Sweden have begun to offer Swish payments, but larger retailers with high-volume payment flows require a solution that integrates Swish with their cash registers to facilitate easy payment.

The process of introducing Swish to retail points of sale using Blippit app terminals began in autumn 2018, and the solution will be presented at Innoday at Stockholm Waterfront Conference Centre on 21 March.
