Today the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) issued Swedish patent 538 778 to Crunchfish for grouping and filtering mobile users who are in close proximity. This is Crunchfish’s first granted patent focused on Augmented Reality.

Since 2014 Crunchfish has developed aBubbl®, a product within product area Connected AR, that in many ways can augment the reality for the mobile user. aBubbl® can be used with any Android or iOS app, enabling users to discover and communicate with other devices in close proximity. The patent is focused on grouping and filtering, which enables mobile users to be categorized into subgroups. The purpose is to be able to identify and count the number of participants, or selectively share and exchange information between subgroups.

“This is a key and commercially very important patent for Crunchfish. Not only because it is our first grant within AR, but because of its wide and fundamental scope. Grouping users into subgroups is a core feature of any social application within social media, dating, business networking, meeting, collaborative gaming, for instance.”, says Joachim Samuelsson, Chairman of Crunchfish and responsible for its IP-portfolio.
