First North-listed Crunchfish has received another approved patent by the Patent and Registration Office (PRV) in Sweden. The patent refers to detection of other active app users who are nearby and easily share information with them. It is the company’s fourth patent in Connected AR (Augmented Reality). The patent is valid for 20 years.

The technology of Crunchfish’s new patent is contained in the company’s software aBubbl®, which offers users a communicative form of augmented reality. aBubbl® is based on beacon technology originally developed for stationary Bluetooth transmitters. aBubbl®, unlike traditional Beacon technology, enables a dynamic system for mobile Bluetooth transmitters built into common mobile phones. When several active users of the same app are close to each other, they can automatically detect each other and with minimal interaction share information between themselves. The product aBubbl® can be integrated into any iOS or Android app on the market and also supports communication between operating systems. The patent protects multiple uses using Bluetooth technology:

  • Sharing photos to everyone present
  • Sharing presentations to meeting participants
  • Sharing payment at a restaurant or in a taxi
  • Exchange of contact information
  • Transfer of phone number for cash payments

“Crunchfish further strengthens the patent protection around a solution we are alone in offering a global market. Our patent protection regarding the Connected AR technology in the product aBubbl® is strong. Today we have 13 patented inventions, four of which are already approved” says Joachim Samuelsson, Chairman of Crunchfish.

aBubbl® is a unique product as it creates a “network bubble” around the mobile user, within which it is possible to discover and easily communicate and share information with others within the bubble’s range.
