First North-listed Crunchfish has received prior notice from the Patent and Registration Office (PRV) regarding the grant of a patent in Sweden regarding the establishment of a file sharing group based on whether users are within audible distance. This is the company’s seventh patent within Augmented Reality.

The technology relates to Crunchfish’s aBubbl® software, which is based on Bluetooth technology. The software creates a personal network around the mobile user, enabling automatic detection and communication with others within the network range of 70 metres.

The prior notice of the patent refers to the use of sound to limit the scope of users in a room. Sound waves are muted by the walls while the high frequency Bluetooth radio waves pass through. The technology creates a unique opportunity to define who is in a room and to easily exchange information and, for example, share files to all present without giving access to anyone outside the room.

The patent application concerns Sweden and has application number 1450293-4. Patent protection is valid until 2034. The patent application is also filed in the US and China.

“The patented technology creates highly interesting user situations where you can identify who’s in a room and share information with them. The room’s walls form the demarcation zone because the sound waves do not get through them, “says Joachim Samuelsson, Chairman of the Board and Patent Liaison at Crunchfish.

Crunchfish’s patent portfolio
Crunchfish has, nationally and internationally, 51 active patents and patent applications in two technology areas – gesture control and Augmented Reality. There are eleven unique inventions in gesture control, of which ten have been granted patents and 13 unique inventions in Augmented Reality, of which seven have been approved patents. The company owns all its patents and patent applications without limitation.

“In recent months, Crunchfish has significantly strengthened patent protection for our Connected AR technology, which we have communicated to the market in press releases. This is clearly positive now when the commercialization of Connected AR and the product aBubbl® has started, “says Joachim Samuelsson.

Crunchfish’s strategy is to protect the company’s technology in all geographic markets deemed to be of importance. Crunchfish intends to extend its patent portfolio continuously to selected markets and through new inventions in both gesture control and Augmented Reality.

aBubbl®
Crunchfish’s Connected AR technology is realized in the software product aBubbl®. The technology is unique in the market and offers new opportunities for social and commercial relations between individuals as well as between customers and local businesses. Simply described, the technology creates a network bubble with a radius of up to 70 meters around users, where they can identify others, communicate and exchange information. What is unique is that communication is also possible when the mobile phone is in sleep mode.
